Timed Task Evidence Record
A structured record for gathering evidence from timed classroom activities to determine whether additional time is required and, if so, how much.
Purpose
Use this record to gather evidence from timed classroom activities when considering whether additional time is an appropriate assessment arrangement.
The aim is not simply to show that a learner used extra time, but to demonstrate:
- the impact of timed conditions on performance
- whether additional time reduces that barrier
- the smallest amount of additional time needed for the learner to demonstrate their knowledge and skills
Where possible, complete more than one timed activity before reaching a conclusion.

Automatic percentage calculator
When this template is completed within the Fianais application, calculate the percentage automatically using:
Additional working time ÷ Standard time × 100
Additional working time ÷ standard time × 100. The result is rounded to one decimal place when needed.
Examples:
| Standard time | Additional time | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 60 minutes | 9 minutes | 15% |
| 60 minutes | 15 minutes | 25% |
| 80 minutes | 20 minutes | 25% |
| 90 minutes | 22.5 minutes | 25% |
Display the calculated percentage immediately after the additional working time is entered.
Evidence from the task
Describe what happened during the standard time.
Consider:
- pace of working
- unfinished questions
- incomplete extended responses
- omitted sections
- evidence of rushing
- evidence that knowledge could not be demonstrated within the standard time
Evidence from standard time:
Describe what the learner achieved during the additional working time.
Consider:
- which questions were completed
- whether answers improved
- whether work reflected the learner's usual standard
- whether the learner worked independently
Evidence from additional time:
Teacher evaluation
Consider the following.
- Did additional time allow the learner to demonstrate knowledge that was already secure?
- Was work completed independently?
- Did quality improve?
- Was the learner still significantly restricted?
- Does the evidence suggest a smaller or larger amount would be more appropriate?
Teacher evaluation:
Teacher conclusion
Select one.
- No additional time currently required.
- Continue gathering evidence.
- 10% additional time appears appropriate.
- 15% additional time appears appropriate.
- 20% additional time appears appropriate.
- 25% additional time appears appropriate.
- More evidence required before making a recommendation.
Reason for conclusion:
Important reminder
Using all available additional time does not, by itself, justify an assessment arrangement.
Evidence should demonstrate:
- the learner experienced a genuine barrier during timed work
- additional time reduced that barrier
- the learner was able to demonstrate their knowledge and skills more accurately
- the proposed amount is proportionate
- the amount recommended is the smallest amount that enables fair access
Assessment arrangements should always be based on evidence from normal classroom practice rather than assumptions or diagnosis alone.
